Who We AreOur school mission with each one of our students is "Building Confidence, Intellectual Growth and Spiritual Strength." We live in a time of accelerated change. More so than ever, our students need to know that their creator, God, is equipping them with His Spirit and His Holy Word. Our faculty and staff seek God's wisdom as we prepare our students for life in this world and more importantly for life eternally.
For 50 years Goodpasture Christian School has been a ministry serving the educational needs of families who wish to have Godly values and a knowlege of Jesus Christ as the center of their child's learning experiences. Goodpasture Christian School has grown from approximately 150 students, faculty and staff on campus in our intial beginnings to over 1,000 students, faculty and staff who make up our school today. Along the way, GCS has served over 3,600 alumni who are making contributions to society in the Middle Tennessee region, as well as, graduates who serve their communities nationally and internationally. While many things have changed: additional acreage, new facilities, new programs, etc.; some other things have remained constant:

Our HistoryHistory
East Nashville Christian School opened in September of 1966. The school building had eighteen classrooms with a library, multipurpose room, and offices. The school had 149 students in grades one through six. The second year in operation, the school added grades seven and eight. Also during that year, B.C. Goodpasture, editor of the Gospel Advocate, was added to the board of directors. Later, the school was formally named B.C. Goodpasture Christian School in honor of Mr. Goodpasture’s outstanding contribution as a church leader, lecturer, and author. The addition of the high school was a part of the second building phase. The new facility was opened in September of 1971 and included grades seven through eleven. The 1972-1973 school year opened with a complete high school unit of grades seven through twelve. During the years 1972-1982 many improvements followed. Among these were new accesses and parking lots, an athletic field house and football stadium, enlargement of the gymnasium with a weight room, coaches’ offices and dressing rooms, elementary playground, three tennis courts, junior high classrooms and a band room with offices and storage areas. Since 1982, Goodpasture Christian School has extensively expanded its facilities. A four classroom kindergarten was built. The high school library and the lunchroom were both enlarged. The junior high wing was added with six classrooms and offices for the principal, secretary, and guidance counselor and a junior high gym was added. The Fine Arts Building housing a 1,200-seat auditorium, the president’s offices, and six classrooms for the three- and four-year old preschool students was completed in 1990. Beginning in the summer of 1996, Goodpasture began a program of renovating and improving the older buildings on campus. Since that time, the original elementary building was renovated with an expansion of the library, addition of classrooms and storage, and new heating and air conditioning units. The high school gym was renovated with new flooring and new automated bleachers. The high school building, middle school gym, and kindergarten have all been renovated. In the summer of 1997 an addition was made at the south end of the Fine Arts Building. This addition contains space for grades five and six, a large choral music room with storage, additional preschool classrooms, and play area, rest rooms and a teacher’s lounge. In 2000, a state-of-the-art field house was constructed for use by all athletic teams. The 17,896 square foot field house has a workout area of 3,675 square feet with exercise equipment to help build strength and agility. The field house contains a coach’s office, a conference room, dressing rooms, a laundry, and storage areas. In 2002 a clubhouse for the baseball team was completed. It was named the Davy Lovell Memorial Clubhouse in memory of an outstanding student of Goodpasture that lost a courageous battle to cancer. The clubhouse contains a coaches’ office, dressing room, showers, restrooms, and storage for equipment. Over the years, the school has not only added new athletic and band fields but also improved existing ones. Additions include a baseball field, softball field, paved band practice area and improvements to the football practice field. August of 2013 saw the opening of Goodpasture’s Great Beginning Toddler Program serving children age twelve months through thirty-six months. Within the first eighteen months, the program grew from two classrooms to three with children in a waiting pool for future openings. |
